Visit architect Alden Dow’s mid-century style office located in downtown Lake Jackson, where he designed our town. The distinctive shape of the window of the office has served as an icon of the city and is currently the museum’s logo. The building was built in 1943, was the original City Hall, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Alvin Historical Museum serves as a destination for history buffs, tourists and special exhibit visitors. We are located in historic downtown Alvin in the old post office. Our exhibits range from Prehistoric artifacts to the formation of Alvin and Texas. Items you may find interesting are an authentic signature of Santa Anna, war memorabilia, original post office mural from 1940’s, our vintage toy display and a whole exhibit room on the life and career of Nolan Ryan.

Walk in the Footsteps of Stephen F. Austin! Known as the Cradle of Texas, Surfside Beach is the home of the famous Fort Velasco. It was at this port that Stephen F. Austin and his colonists first arrived in Texas in 1821. Visit the recently renovated Battle of Velasco Memorial, then head across the street to City Hall to collect your passport stamp!

Founded in the 1840s, the Jackson Plantation was the second of three plantations developed by Abner Jackson. Originally known as “Lake Place”, the site was once a bustling sugar plantation that stretched over 4642 acres with more than 80 enslaved workers.
The site is significant to the history of industrialized sugar production in Brazoria County; it has been designated as a State Antiquities Landmark by the Texas Historical Commission. Visitors can explore the archeological remains of this historic site, notably those of the main house and sugar mill.

The Lake Jackson Historical Museum presents permanent and rotating exhibits that highlight major eras and influential figures of Lake Jackson history. Stephen F. Austin-Munson Historical County Park represents a unique private-public partnership, and is a culmination of years of community support for Brazoria County’s most famous resident, Stephen F. Austin, “the Father of Texas,” as he was first called by fellow early Texan, Sam Houston. The park features 10 acres, with its centerpiece an iconic, 76-foot tall statue of Stephen F. Austin, which was designed by famed Texas sculptor David Adickes.
Other amenities include 5 covered pavilions for use on a first come first basis, a new playground, catch and release fishing pond in the shape of the state of Texas, and partial site walking trails with more in the works.

Generations of Texas history, commerce encapsulate Varner-Hogg Plantation State Historic Site, which tells the stories of the many families, both enslaved and not, who worked to build Texas. Over its 134-year history, the site hosted sugarcane production, cattle ranching, and oil drilling as it transitioned through the ownership of the Varners, the Pattons, and the Hoggs.
